Day 1 IZMIR - GAZIANTEP
We meet with our valued guests at 04:00 in the domestic terminal in Adnan Menderes Airport, at the SunExpress check-in counter. After the check-in procedures, we take a direct flight at 06:00 with SunExpress Airlines to the enchanting GAZIANTEP, known for its unique cuisine, thousands of years of history, and rich cultural heritage. Following a breakfast break with our guide, we settle into our waiting vehicle and begin our tour with a breakfast featuring the famous Katmer and Beyran Soup. Next, we visit the ZEUGMA MOSAIC MUSEUM, the largest mosaic museum in the world. The museum, which we will explore with information from our guide, is an important archaeological museum in Gaziantep that displays artworks and mosaics from the Roman period. Artifacts from the ancient city of Zeugma are preserved here, including the famous "Gypsy Girl" mosaic. The museum also houses ancient sculptures, ceramics, and stone artifacts. Zeugma is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. We then proceed to the historical bazaars and visit the ZİNCİRLİ BEDDESTEN, ALMACI PAZARI, BAKIRCILAR ÇARŞISI. We take a coffee break at the historic Tahmis Coffee House, then check into our hotel. Dinner and accommodation will be at our hotel in Gaziantep.
Day 2 HALFETI - GÖBEKLİTEPE - ŞANLIURFA - SIRA NIGHT
After having breakfast at our hotel in the morning, we head to the hidden paradise of the southeast, HALFETI, via Birecik. Halfeti is a mesmerizing village hidden in the calm waters of the Euphrates River, with its historical texture and the stunning harmony of nature. Known as the "Secret Paradise", this unique place lives up to its name, showcasing ancient structures submerged in the water, delicate black roses, and breathtaking scenery, reminiscent of a world left behind in time. This peaceful village, where history meets nature, offers deep traces of the past and vast natural beauty at every corner. Guests who wish can join an optional boat tour. After our boat tour, we arrive at Göbeklitepe, the oldest temple complex in human history. Dated to around 10,000 BCE, this fascinating archaeological site opens new doors to the belief worlds of ancient civilizations with its gigantic stone columns and impressive reliefs. Göbeklitepe is not only one of Turkey's but also one of the world's most important archaeological discoveries, offering visitors an unforgettable experience. After completing our tour with our guide, we settle into our hotel in Şanlıurfa. Those who wish can participate in the traditional dinner and Sıra Night (extra). Accommodation will be at our hotel in Şanlıurfa.
Day 3 BALIKLIGÖL - ŞANLIURFA - NEMRUT - DIYARBAKIR
After having breakfast at our hotel, we start exploring the city of prophets, Şanlıurfa, accompanied by our guide. In Urfa, which is scented with kebabs and isot, we will visit Balıklı Göl, Ayn-ı Zeliha Gölü, Rızvaniye Mosque, and the cave where Hz. Ibrahim was born. After our visit, we will take a short shopping break in the historical bazaar and then board minibuses to ascend to NEMRUT, a place that can be described as an open-air museum with its impressive statues from the depths of history and its gigantic tomb temple. (Extra) On the way, we will see Cendere Bridge and Karakuş Tumulus with our guide's narration. NEMRUT, known as "The Throne of Kings" and regarded as the eighth wonder of the world, is at a height of 2150 m and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage. After taking photos of these magnificent historical structures, we move on to Diyarbakır. Dinner and accommodation will be at our hotel in Diyarbakır.
Day 4 DIYARBAKIR - HASANKEYF - MARDIN - MIDYAT
After breakfast at our hotel, we will visit the Grand Mosque, the oldest mosque in Anatolia and the fifth harem-i sharif in the Islamic world, along with Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı’s Cultural House (exterior description during restoration), Dört Ayaklı Minare (Sheikh Mutahhar Mosque), Süka Han, Deliller Han, and the Diyarbakır Walls and Hevsel Gardens, which were registered as a UNESCO World Heritage during the 39th meeting of the World Heritage Committee, as well as the On Gözlü Bridge. We then proceed to Hasankeyf. With its ancient history and its importance as a meeting point of civilizations, Hasankeyf is a significant heritage of Mesopotamia. Recently, due to the construction of the Ilısu Dam, it has been submerged underwater, and historical artifacts have been relocated to New Hasankeyf. Here we observe the historical city from a broader perspective while also seeing natural beauties like Zeynel Bey Tomb and El Rızk Mosque from the Akkoyunlu and Ottoman periods. Moving towards Mardin, we start our tour of Mardin with theKasımiye Medrese and learn about the medrese, initially constructed during the Artuqid period and completed at the end of the 15th century during the Akkoyunlu Sultan Kasım I ibn Cihangir period. After a photo break, we explore the Ptt Building, Olgunlaşma Institute, Ulu Mosque, Zinciriye Medrese, along with the historical structures that blend Mardin culture and architecture, including its narrow streets and abbeys. Listen to the sounds of children and the occasional sounds of horses as you walk through the narrow streets, and be sure to touch the hundreds-of-years-old cool walls; that is when you will truly connect with Mardin. We provide free time for shopping around the Mardin bazaar where you can find unique gifts such as hand-printed manuscripts, copper trays, kilims, handmade felt, prayer beads, scarves, wines, handcrafted wood products, almond sweets, roasted chickpeas, mırra coffee pots, and special cups (Gümgüm). After concluding our Mardin tour, we settle into our hotel in Midyat for dinner and accommodation.
Day 5 MIDYAT - TATVAN – AKDAMAR ISLAND - VAN
After breakfast, we will explore the enchanting historical streets of MIDYAT, home to many TV series, including "Sıla" and "Adını Kalbime Yazdım." We stroll through the shared neighborhoods of Christians and Muslims, with free time for shopping telkari silver. Afterward, we see the famous minarets of Bitlis, which have inspired songs, and cross to the AKDAMAR ISLAND located in the Lake Van, renowned in the film Vizontele at the foot of Artos Mountain via TATVAN. The legend of Akdamar Island is woven with stories of love and sacrifice, captivating audiences for centuries. We hear the tale and history of the island from our guide, visiting the AKDAMAR CHURCH built on the island, famous for its walls with incredible stories. (The boat fee to Akdamar Island is extra) We settle into our hotel in Van for dinner and accommodation.
Day 6 VAN - MURADİYE WATERFALL - EAST BAYAZIT İSHAK PAŞA PALACE - KARS
After breakfast at the hotel, we head to the MURADİYE WATERFALL. We arrive at Muradiye Waterfall near Çaldıran, taking photos from the suspension bridge, and then continue passing through Çaldıran Plain towards Doğu Beyazıt. After a short photo stop to capture the stunning view of Mount Ağrı, mentioned in holy texts and legends as the highest peak in our country, we visit the İshak Paşa Palace, which was built on a high location overlooking the plain, known as the Topkapı Palace of East Anatolia. We then proceed via the Iğdır-Digor road to Kars. Next, we visit the Ani Ruins, located near the Arpaçay, which has defined the border with Armenia and has been a trading hub for centuries. The Great Cathedral, The Church of the Holy Apostles, the Seljuk Palace, and the Menuçehr Mosque, the first mosque built in Anatolia, are just a few of the important artifacts we will see here. After a narration from our guide, we transfer to our vehicle and head to our hotel in Kars for dinner and accommodation. Day 7 KARS - ERZURUM - IZMİR
Following breakfast at the hotel, our guide will accompany us on a city tour of Kars: We will see several buildings constructed during the Russian occupation that are still in use, including the Governor's Mansion and the nearby stone buildings, the Orthodox Church (Central Mosque), Iron Bridge, Ismet Pasha Primary School, Physician's House (Opera House), Fevzi Pasha Primary School, Alexander Nevsky Church (Fethiye Mosque), Kars Castle, Train Station, Kars Castle, Stone Bridge, and the Church of the Twelve Apostles. After examining the unique architecture of the city, we will make our purchases of the famous Kars Gravyer and White Cheese and continue our journey toward Erzurum. Along the way, we stop to see the Sarıkamış Martyrs' Monument, built in memory of the thousands of Turkish soldiers who lost their lives in the tragic Sarıkamış Operation in 1914, honoring our fallen heroes with respect and gratitude. We then arrive in Erzurum. We enjoy free time at Taşhan (Rüstem Pasha Caravanserai), which showcases handicrafts made from the local Oltu stone. Then, we visit the historically significant Erzurum National Struggle Congress Building, where critical decisions for independence were made. Our visits conclude with the Double Minaret Medrese. Next, we tour the Ulu Mosque, Yakutiye Medrese (time permitting), and the Three Tombs. Finally, we enjoy free time for dinner (we recommend the famous Çag Kebab). After spending an enriching 7 days, we head to Erzurum Airport for our flight at 22:10 back to Adnan Menderes Airport in Izmir. We conclude this wonderful tour with unforgettable memories. We say goodbye until we meet again on the next trip organized by Izmir Travel Port.
