After our city tour of Mytilene, we begin our journey to Plomari, known as the cutest coastal town and the capital of ouzo. After our city tour in Plomari, we have our lunch at a restaurant by the sea. After our lunch break, we will visit the Barbayanni Ouzo Factory in Plomari, where we learn about ouzo production and enjoy an ouzo tasting, after which you can purchase your ouzo from the factory's sales point. We will stroll through the quaint market that showcases wooden carved furniture, ceramics, and lacework, and we will visit the famous pilgrimage site, the Church of the Virgin Mary. After our coffee break in the market square, we will go to Lidl Supermarket to do our shopping. After our shopping break, we proceed to our hotel.
DAY 2: WEST MYTILENE TOUR: SIGRI-ERESOS - JUMBO SHOPPING CENTER - GREEK NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
After breakfast, we leave our hotel and head towards Sigri and Eresos in the west region of Lesbos, known for its beautiful sea and fossil forests. As we approach Sigri, we are greeted by a remarkable view. Sigri is a village built to overlook two separate beaches with an island in the middle. The world-famous fossil forest is located here, and it is worth visiting Lesbos just to see it. The fossil forest was formed 20 million years ago due to volcanic activity in the North Aegean region. Some fossilized tree trunks can still be found during ongoing archaeological excavations, especially near Nisiopi Island, in front of Sigri and under the sea. The fossil forest museum provides an opportunity to touch the marbleized tree trunks that have survived for 20 million years until today. Entrance is paid (8 € per person - extra) to the Sigri Lesvos Fossil Park Natural History Museum, which interested guests can visit. At the museum entrance, you can see examples of the Greek flora, with aromatic plants and fossil tree trunks. The "Fossil Forest" meticulously illustrates the development of plants on Earth from the first single-celled organisms appearing 3.5 billion years ago to the formation of fossil forests. Additionally, after our museum visit, we will visit the Ottoman castle built in 1757 located in Sigri, and then walk through the streets of Sigri to reach the beach. Here, we will also see the village church converted from the old mosque and meet our vehicle. We will then travel to Eressos, a quaint village known for being the hometown of Sappho, the greatest lyrical poet of all time. You will notice the Sappho Statue, which stands like a monument in the square. Eressos is more famous for its beach located in Skala, about 3 km from the main town, known for having the best sea in Lesbos. It boasts a few kilometers of sandy beach with numerous entertainment options, ranging from food and drink to activities. Here, we will enjoy lunch and take a swimming break. After the break, we will head to the JUMBO Shopping Center. After our visit to the JUMBO Shopping Center, we will move towards our hotel. During dinner, we will taste traditional island dishes and experience an unforgettable Greek night (taverna) with Bouzouki music.
